This operation is used to reduce the stomach causing that food go directly from the stomach into the small intestine end. Thus, the operation is performed in two steps: firstly, sectioning the stomach in its upper part reduced and secondly bypassing it with the intestine.
The malabsorption that this technique produces makes this procedure the most successful in losing weight, but for its risk characteristics should only be used in selected patients.
