Name

Umbilical Hernia

An umbilical hernia is a sac (pouch) formed from the inner lining of the abdomen and of the abdominal organs that pushes through a hole in the abdominal wall at the belly button.

Through surgery it is identified and the herniated tissue around it is separated. Then the contents of the intestine are reintroduced into the abdomen and the weakened tissue of the abdominal wall is repaired. It is possible that the use of a reinforcing mesh is needed.
